I Killed My Fish- A Haiku Series

November 4, 2016

Words Batul S.
Illustration Fatema A.

Batul S., bless her sweet soul, is a harbinger of peculiar muscle spasms. Bubbly, bouncy and of course, beautiful, the ‘B’ words that make her and her name.

Separator.

Tiny golden fish
Beautifying its fountain
They swim joyously

A giant maiden
Gazes at her precious fish
She is contended

One day she comes home
Takes a peek at her life’s pride
The fish are so dead

Lying on the ground
Devoid of life’s warm embrace
Oxygen turned off

With great fortitude
She buries her heart under ground
Four shovels of soil

There is a lesson
To learn from this tragedy
Find it through these lines

Remember these words
Keep the motor running strong
Fish need to breathe too
