Separator.

Being fortunate enough to be able to travel to Mumbai often, I always try to make it a point to bring back rose petals from the turbats of Syedna Taher Saifuddin Saheb RA and Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb RA. Once back home I offer them to people when I go to masjid. It never fails to move me to see how eagerly and gratefully they are received, how the recipients do dua for me in return.

Petals,

Fragrant and fragile

Powerful and potent.

Awaited in distant lands

Comfort, healing, blessing,

Hope you bring.

The farewell ziarat,

Full of sorrow

Of parting.

Fingers gratefully pick

Petals off the hallowed turbats

From the pure garden

Into waiting kerchief.

To distant shores

You travel

Eagerly you are offered

And so gratefully received.

Those that couldn’t go

Are thankful for

The blessing that

Has come to them.

Petals,

Fragrant and fragile

Powerful and potent

Salve to the soul

Response to a prayer

Messengers of

Hope and love.
